Tiger Falls

One of the key points to keep in mind while visiting Tiger falls is that it is also known as Kerrao Pachad and Kailu Pachad by the locals. Untouched by commercialization and away from the casual visitors, the trekkers and travelers find it a peaceful experience to visit. It is surrounded by dense forests and the water enchants loudly in between the hills. Visitors can also get an enthralling experience of a refreshing bath below the 50 meters waterfall in a small pond.

Chilmiri Neck

Located at a distance of 5 kms from Chakrata, it is the highest peak in Chakrata surrounded by dense forests and lush green lands. It is the place where the quarters and mess of the army cantonment are located. It is an exquisite place from where tourists can enjoy the amazing view of the Himalayan ranges. Deoban

Surrounded by dense forests, the area is also home to many birds and animals which attract tourists to visit the place. The unique animal species in the area are Himalayan woodpeckers and white-collared blackbirds.

Ram Tall Horticulture Garden

Located at a distance of 12 kms from Chakrata in the Mussoorie road. It is a famous picnic spot both among tourists and the locals. The garden is approximately 30 meter long and 20 meter wide with an apple garden and a natural pond making it an ideal picnic spot.

Moigad Fall

Moigad fall is famous as an ideal picnic spot with scenic beauty and it’s a very relaxing place. Tourists can also enjoy a refreshing bath in the milky waters of the pond. It’s located at a distance of 69 kms from Dehradun on the Delhi-Yamunotri road. Tourists are advised to take eatables along with them while visiting the Moigad fall as there are not many options available.

Lakhamandal

It is a place of historical and mythological relevance in India that is located 100 kms away from Chakrata. According to the legends in the Mahabharata, it is considered to be the place where Duryodhan tried to kill the Pandavas and made them stay in the palace named “Laksha Grah” or the house of wax. The inscriptions in the temple can be dated back to the Gupta Period (5th-8th centuries). Tourists can also see two well-carved statues just outside the main shrine of Lakhamandal and these statues are believed to be of two doormen or of Arjun and Bheem.

Budher Caves

These caves were built by the Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata and are more than 150 kms in length. Budher caves were discovered by a German national named Miola and, thus, the cave is also known as the Miola Cave. Budher caves are located at a distance of 30 kms from Chakrata and are still unknown by the tourists because of its difficult track. A sweeping green meadow named Miola Tibba encircles an age-old temple of Lord Shiva. This meadow provides an amazing view of the Himalayan ranges as it is at a height of 2590 meters.

Hanol – Mahasu Devta Temple: Hanol, named after the Brahmin Huna Bhat is a small village in Chakrata located on the banks of Tons river. Hanol is situated at a distance of 95 kms from Chakrata via Tuini. Though the village is known for its scenic beauty, it is a famous tourist spot because of the Mahasu Devta Temple. The temple was built in the 9th century in Huna-architectural style. The local people believed in Mahasu Devta or the God of Justice. Mahasu Devta temple is visited by devotees from faraway places for blessings.

Kalsi

Kalsi is a small town famous for its heritage importance and is located at a distance of 43 kms from Chakrata. Rock edicts of the famous Mauryan Emperor, Ashoka, are present in Kalsi and its importance increases as it is the only rock edict of Ashoka available in North India. These edicts were built in 450 BC and were written in Pali language. Tourists can also enjoy fishing in Kalsi with prior permission.

Kanasar

Kanasar located 26 kms from Chakrata is a beautiful location with dense forests ideal for honeymooners. Its attraction increases because of the green meadows and very old Deodar trees in the forests. Asia’s biggest and oldest Deodar tree is in Kanasar with a circumference of 6.35 meters. Trekkers can also go to Buder Gupha and Deoban from Kanasar. A forest rest house, 3kms away from the village, also offers excellent view of the hills. Kanasar Temple is also famous among the locals and is the centre of devotion and faith.

Kimona Fall

Kimona fall is 2 kms away from Chakrata but it is still an unexplored spot by tourists. The place is surrounded by oak forests and the waterfall is at a height of 35 meters. Kimona fall is a perfect picnic spot that make the mornings of tourists delightful by its serene atmosphere.

Mundali

Mundali - A perfect skiing destination

The place is perfect for skiing in winters at an altitude of 2776 meters because of its alpine meadows. Tourists can enjoy vast ski slopes and unforgettable views of snow-capped mountains. Mundali also has schools for skiers from intermediate to advanced levels where skiers can learn some lessons of skiing during their visit. Camping is also another option in Mundali.

Thana Danda Peak

Thana Danda is a perfect location for a day out where tourists can enjoy camping and trekking. It is an undeveloped viewpoint in Chakrata located at a distance of 16 kms. Everything looks fabulous from the top of Thanda Danda peak... Green farmlands, small villages and the mighty mountains.

How to Reach Chakrata

Reaching Chakrata is fairly simple. There are two routes – one is through Mussoorie and the other is through Vikashnagar. One can enjoy the scenic beauty of the valley on both the routes. From Dehradun, the journey will be of 4 hours while from Ponta Sahib it will be 3 hours.

By Road: Well connected by motorable roads with Himachal Pradesh. Both luxury and normal buses are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Mussoorie, Dehradun and Chakrata. One can also easily hire a taxi from the major destinations of Uttarakhand state.

By Train: Dehradun Railway Station is the nearest railway station from Chakrata and is 89 kms away from Chakrata. One can easily hire a taxi or take a bus from Dehradun. The major trains connecting Dehradun with other cities are Shatabdi Express and Dehradun Express. It also has an excellent train route with cities like Amritsar, Varanasi, Mumbai, Howrah, and Delhi.
